Humanitas: Research, Teaching, Healthcare

Humanitas is a highly specialized hospital, research center and teaching site of Humanitas University, which is an international university dedicated to medical sciences.

The polyclinic has merged specialized centers to treat cancer, cardiovascular, neurological, orthopedic, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and an Eye Center and a Fertility Center. Humanitas is also equipped with a highly specialized EAS Emergency Room, the first Italian polyclinic certified for quality by Joint Commission International and accredited with the National Health Service.

Considered by Harvard University as one of the four most innovative hospitals globally, Humanitas is a case study for its organizational model, which combines clinical quality, economic sustainability, development, and social responsibility.

Recognized by the Ministry as a Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Healthcare (IRCCS), Humanitas is a worldwide reference point for research on immune system disorders, from cancer to rheumatoid arthritis.

The Clinical Institute Humanitas is the leading hospital of a group present in Italy with 7 hospitals: Humanitas San Pio X in Milan, Humanitas Gavazzeni in Bergamo, Humanitas Mater Domini in Castellanza, Humanitas Gradenigo and Humanitas Cellini in Turin, Humanitas Centro Catanese di Oncologia in Catania. The group is also present on the territory with 8 diagnostic centers.

Humanitas Cancer Center

Humanitas Cancer Center is a center for the diagnosis and treatment of oncological and hematological pathologies. Inserted in the context of the polyclinic, it offers comprehensive care pathways for most solid and hematological cancers, from primary and secondary prevention, for which there is a substantial commitment for awareness campaigns, to follow-up and beyond, since a medical support program for long-term survivors has recently been introduced.

The mission of Humanitas Cancer Center is not only to beat cancer but to take care of patients in a comprehensive and personalized way, with different treatments tailored to the specific needs. Therefore, fundamental is the multidisciplinary collaboration, not only at the oncological level (between medical oncologist, surgeon, diagnostician, radiotherapist and psychologist), but even including other specialists such as cardiologists, hepatologists, emergency physicians and physiotherapists being involved in the various phases of the entire treatment process.

Research is also essential to constantly improve the quality and results of treatments and to develop innovative ones. Humanitas Cancer Center collaborates with the most important international research networks. It applies the results of different studies in all areas and phases of the treatment process: in prevention and screening, in radiological and endoscopic diagnostic techniques, in developing new drugs and support therapies, in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, in radiotherapy, without forgetting the primary research, which is focused on studying the mechanisms at the origin of cancer development.

With a view to a global approach against cancer, the clinical and research activities of Humanitas Cancer Center are periodically reviewed by an international Advisory Board composed of physicians and researchers from the most crucial cancer centers in the world.
