The continuous  functional  link between research and clinic represents a significant added value also recognized by OECI (Organization of European Cancer Institute) through the assignment of the accreditation certificate as Clinical Cancer Center.

The research at the Institute “Giovanni Paolo II” focuses mainly on the development of less invasive therapies and hence to improve the quality of life for the patients to defeat the “big killer”.

Precision or Personalized Medicine is today an integral part of modern cancer therapy. It is characterized by the identification of specific targets, drug resistances or other prognostic factors in order to predict the efficacy and the choice of a personalized treatment. In this context, the use of specifically designed nanoparticles in oncology to recognize specific target, allow for combination therapies (hyperthermia, drug delivery, imaging) and release of the loaded drug only under specific conditions in the tumors sparing the healthy tissue is an important pillar of research in the labs of the Institute in Bari. The idea is to “To give  the right drug to the right person at the right time”.
